As of January 1, 2004 the EPA has halted production of the CCA
(chromated copper arsenate) pressure treated lumber (which is the main
type we've always used). The industry has replaced it with a much safer
copper based chemical called ACQ (alkaline copper quat). This new ACQ
pressure treated lumber costs between 15% to 35% more than the old CCA
lumber. We also had to upgrade the hardware we use to assemble our
jumps to either stainless steel or triple galvanized, which is necessary
to avoid corrosion. This is also at a substantial price
increase. Unfortunately, Jumps4horses
price increases are a reflection of the new material costs.
